Every so often we road-test new bits of technical kit, because we always want to keep Restrained Elegance well ahead
of the curve in terms of photographic quality. Yesterday Ariel and I roadtested a new camera for possible use in shooting
for the site. Have a look at some samples from our shoot inside... including 13 megapixel full-dized images from a Canon
EOS 5D (which is the workhorse camera for most of the photographers we shoot for Restrained Elegance) plus some
HUGE 31 megapixel full-sized images from a H3DII-31 Hassleblad digital camera.
If you are interested in the photography please do drop by the forum for a chat! I'll be posting my thoughts on
the two cameras on there and starting a discussion about our camera choice
for the site so please post and let us know your thoughts.
The files in this gallery are as follows:
- Full sized JPEGs from the Hasselblad, processed using Hassleblad's Phocus software.
- Full sized JPEGs from the Hassleblad, processed using Apple's Aperture software.
- Full sized JPEGs from the Canon, processed using Aperture.
- The same images as above, but reduced to web sized 1280 x 1280 pixels.
I've deliberately not airbrushed or photoshopped these images (sorry, Ariel!) The images were all shot in RAW format,
which means that one has to use a RAW converter to select the right white balance and produce a JPEG for web viewing.
I also applied a sensible amount of sharpening to the images, much as I would do for normal processing for RE.
We shot with studio flash, indoors in natural light, and outdoors in natural light with a reflector, as we would
in normal RE shoots. We tried to use both cameras "fairly", concentrating on shooting good images in real-world conditions
rather than on technical exercises.
