The challenge- set up a scene, light it, and shoot it- with Ariel, tied up! As it was a nice summer's day, the sun was out but not so high in the sky as to create horrible top-lighting. So he decided to go for a chair-tie on the lawn, using the direct sun as a hairlight and using a gold reflector to punch light in as the key light. This dealt nicely with the issues of dappled shade, and resulted in a very attractive colour tone to the whole scene. You can see the lighting diagram at the end of the series. You can also see a practical demonstration of how important that gold reflector is in a couple of shots taken from the reverse angle, in the direct dappled sunlight (res_26062018_DSC06998.jpg etc.). Either you have nicely exposed highlights and dark shadows, or burnt out highlights and decent mid-tones. |
